Domestic violence is a widespread problem that affects numerous residents in Los Angeles County. The Los Angeles County Health Survey (2018) found that 20% of women and 13% of men aged 18 and older have been victims of physical and/or sexual abuse by an intimate partner. The problem also affects young people.

According to the 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 6.7% of high school students in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) report instances of physical dating violence, while 4.7% report incidents of sexual dating violence.

These concerning figures highlight the urgent requirement for thorough education, strong support systems, and efficient preventive measures to tackle and decrease domestic violence among all age groups in the county.

Hispanic victims are the most affected by domestic violence in Los Angeles, with 37,583 reported cases. This is followed by Black victims, who account for 20,198 incidents.
These statistics underscore the urgent need for comprehensive and culturally sensitive support services for all victims of domestic violence in Los Angeles. By addressing the unique challenges faced by each community, we can work towards a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone affected by domestic violence.

The presence of physical, emotional, and verbal abuse during this critical period not only endangers the mother but also the unborn child.
